Hypertension treatment must start with the basics. The heart is a complex pump which moves blood within the body through a very advanced circulatory system of arteries, capillaries and veins. Blood pressure is the force of the blood pushing against the inside walls of the arteries as the heart is pumping.

When the heart pumps it pushes the blood into the arteries which causes an increase in pressure. This increase in pressure is measured as systolic pressure. Systolic pressure is always the top reading on a blood pressure measurement.

When the heart decompresses and fills with blood, (Is at rest) the pressure in the arteries then declines which is noted as the diastolic pressure. (Bottom reading) When the blood pressure is taken it is both of these pressures which are examined

Blood pressure is always stated as the systolic and diastolic pressure. The readings are always written systolic before diastolic, example 120/80 and is in millimeters of mercury (mmHg).

Blood pressure varies greatly between people. For example, the top reading which is when the heart contracts (systolic) can change from 90 to 240 mmHg and the bottom pressure which is when the heart relaxes (diastolic) can often change from 40 to 160 mmHg.

Blood pressure can also vary greatly depending on what you are doing during the day. The lowest blood pressures usually happen when you are sleeping or resting. Higher blood pressure can be caused by stress, anxiety and worry. When you exercise pressure rises temporarily to feed the vessels the extra blood it needs.. Many drugs raise blood pressure as does sickness and disease.

In one day blood pressure can change by 30 to 40 mmHg systolic reading and a similar change in the diastolic pressure. This is why it’s so crucial to have the blood pressure taken under the same conditions each time.

For the bulk of the waking hours, the blood pressure remains about the same whether you are sitting or standing still, so ideally, the blood pressure should be 120/80 or lower when the body is resting. A reading over 140/90 is considered high blood pressure.

The specific causes of high blood pressure in most individuals is unknown. High blood pressure is a serious condition and increases your risk of heart disease, stroke, vascular disease, kidney disease. There are many natural ways to lower hypertension. All hypertension treatment should start with natural remedies unless your blood pressure is extremely high when it is discovered. Most people do not know if they have high blood pressure and that is why it is called the silent killer.
